Sowter Audio Transformers specialise in the design and production of high-performance Mu-metal transformers for use in both general purpose pro-audio equipment, as well as direct replacements for specific vintage audio equipment.

For vintage audio equipment, we can recreate or replace transformers for vintage studio compressors, microphone amplifiers, equalisers, bridging and distribution amplifiers and so on, using tubes or transistors. There may be small differences in dimensions, taps and in the detailed specification but we are confident these transformers will sound as good as or better than the the “original sound”.

Using balanced line topologies, users can virtually eliminate most types of noise generated when equipments are connected by preventing “ground loops”. Balanced lines may be converted to unbalanced and vice versa. Signal voltage can be increased or reduced and unwanted loading effects can be removed by step up or down ratios.
